One of the top questions I get asked on a daily basis is “How do you Stop Uncontrollable Cravings?”
I am an expert on this subject, because I personally struggled with cravings for a really long time.
Do you ever get cravings for things like chocolate, chips, cakes, pastries, and fried food?
The food that you shouldn’t be having, but at certain times of day you just want it and eventually you give in to it?
And it happens over and over again.
That’s a craving, when you know you shouldn’t be having it, but you just really want it.
That Was Me…
I struggled with my weight for a really long time and the biggest part of my struggle was cravings.
Getting cravings and giving into junk food kept me 20 kilos overweight for so long.
…whether it was a Chunky Kit Kat, ice cream, or my favorite treats at the bakery.
It was just something that I used to use as a reward for my day.
Even though I knew it was holding me back…
and stalling my progress towards my goal of being fit and healthy, and fitting into all my clothes.
I was never truly satisfied…
I always wanted more the next day.
If wasn’t just more, I wanted something different, it was never ending.
My Cravings were increasing…
I couldn’t lose weight
You know what?
I really hated that my snacking was making me so unhappy and fat.
I knew what I was doing was wrong.
I was eating a pretty good breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
It was the snacking on junk food, because I was giving into these cravings.
Like anything, the more I had of it, the more I wanted.
I was so angry and frustrated with myself.
Then by accident I discovered the solution to beat my cravings, and I started losing weight fast.
It was a smoothie…
How I discovered Smoothies
Just by pure accident I created a little recipe to try.
Rather than going for a Kit Kat or ice cream, I thought what if I could just make something, and I gave it a go.
Then I did it the next day, and the next day.
Then I started to think, I haven’t had a chocolate for three or four days, which is incredible for me.
I was able to walk past the bakery and not go, “Oh, I might just get that today.”
All of a sudden my Smoothie was changing my association with food, and my association with cravings and giving into junk food.
So how did my Smoothie help me?
I had a smoothie as one of my five meals each day.
I wasn’t skipping meals and replacing meals, because that just would have made me hungry.
I was still having five meals a day, but one of them was my smoothie.
Sometimes I’d have it for meal one, sometimes I’d have it for meal two, or sometimes I’d have it in the afternoon.
Just depending on how my day went.
I found a smoothie was filling and satisfying.
It meant that I wasn’t hungry.
And when you’re not hungry,
you don’t get cravings,
and when you don’t get cravings you don’t want to eat junk food.
So that was a big win.
The smoothie stopped that need to “give in” and get something that I knew I shouldn’t be having.
Plus, I led a very busy life, I pack a lot into my day.
I found that having a Smoothie as one of my meals was a really fast way for me to get in a satisfying, filling, fat burning meal that was really quick.
